Things are hotting up in the Champions League at the moment. After FC Bayern deservedly won 2-0 at FC Arsenal last week and Bayer Leverkusen went down 4-0 to Paris St. Germain, two more German teams are up for grabs this week.
Borussia Dortmund could already convince with a good performance after their league defeat against Hamburg and now it’s up to Schalke if the majority of the four German teams will get a good starting position to reach the quarter finals of the Champions League.
BVB with early doubles in a perfect starting position
It is well known that the Champions League has different laws than the national leagues. This should also be confirmed at Borussia Dortmund. While in the league currently very little goes as one would expect, the black-yellow players were able to create an optimal starting position for their entry into the quarter finals of the Champions League. After a lightning start against Zenit St. Petersburg and a brace from Robert Lewandowski, the game was decided.
Already after only four minutes, the Dortmunders scored two goals within 72 seconds, giving them an early lead and setting the course for the future. The Borussians showed that they wanted to win. Jürgen Klopp’s team made the announced defiant reaction come true. After Mkhitaryan and Reus scored at the beginning of the game, Robert Lewandowski gave away his chances in the 19th minute and Reus ten minutes later to make it 3-0. Zenit St. Petersburg scored twice in the second half, before Lewandowski decided the game with two more goals to make it 2-4.
FC Schalke 04 receives the current first place of the Spanish league this evening in the Veltins Arena. Real Madrid was able to pull ahead of FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid with three points. But also FC Schalke is currently in a good mood and the Madrilenians know that. Coach Ancelotti said in an interview before the game: “I’m expecting a highly intensive game. We know what qualities Schalke have.” Midfield strategist Xabi Alonso is also not underestimating the Gelsenkirchen side: “It will certainly be a tough game. We’re competing with great respect. And we have to be as focused as possible.”
Ancelotti has great hopes for his world star Cristiano Ronaldo. The footballer of the year was recently suspended for three games in the Spanish championship, so his motivation should be particularly high. “I expect him to be in top form mentally and physically,” says the real coach. At Schalke, the hope lies with the entire, well-coordinated team. Kevin Prince Boateng should set a special accent and provide the necessary security in midfield.
Only by the class of individual players at Real Madrid, the Spanish team must be given the better chances of winning. Real Madrid are again strengthened with Cristiano Ronaldo and can therefore hope to win with 1.44 at Sportingbet. Schalke 04 has to give everything and even more in their own stadium, to win with an odds of 6.00.
